Why Do Personal Injury Attorneys Recommend Certain Chiropractors?

Does the attorney get compensated for the recommendation?

First, we do not receive any referral fee or other compensation from a chiropractor, physical therapist, urgent care, hospital, or any other medical facility. Second, we do not have any specific plan or agenda regarding which medical provider you get your treatment with.

I can only answer this question on behalf of our firm, but I suspect that other attorneys would have a very similar answer. For many of our cases, our client has already chosen a physical therapist or chiropractor and we just work with our client’s chosen medical provider.  However, there are times when our client wishes to receive medical treatment, but does not know where to treat it, and we will give our recommendations.

The primary factor our firm uses in recommending certain medical providers is our prior clients’ recommendations. We handle a high volume of very similar types of injuries (often soft-tissue injuries or whiplash injuries) and in the process of handling those cases, we learn which providers many of our prior clients recommend. We just pass along (confidentially of course) that information to our new clients. In addition to keeping track of which providers our prior clients preferred, we also get the opportunity to interact with the doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, and staff members at each of these medical providers, and we develop our own opinions as to which providers would serve as the best expert witness if your case were to have to go to trial.

Additionally, sometimes we have clients that do not have health insurance and do not have enough money to pay upfront for their medical treatment. In those circumstances, we keep lists of medical providers that will accept and treat our clients without demanding co-pays and upfront fees (and will bill against our client’s insurance claim) and we recommend that our clients treat with providers that fall into that category.
